Concert pianist, arranger, and producer. Classical technique, put to work on rock, pop, and film.Atlanta, Georgia
Michael Rainwater

Trained on the classics. Raised on the radio.
Michael has played since he was three. His teacher, David Nash, let him put Bach lines over rock harmony and expected them to be good. At home it was Elvis and Rachmaninoff. Discovered at twelve at a Fry's Electronics piano, he spent six years as a Tower of Talent soloist on NBC, from a Bilotti medley to Queen, and at sixteen played Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall.
He arranges the way he was taught: a hook is a theme, a drum groove is an ostinato, overdrive is orchestral colour. He also produces, for vocalists and for demo sessions, in rooms from Atlanta to Los Angeles.
“The touch of Horowitz.”
Peter Yarrow, Peter, Paul and Mary Watching the 2020 NBC special, as told to the production. Covered by Atlantan Magazine, the Milton Herald, the Marietta Daily Journal, Voyage ATL, CanvasRebel, and Bold Journey. All press

Michael Rainwater
Pianist and arranger, from Atlanta.
Classical elegance meets a bold, new edge.
Born in Atlanta and playing piano since age three, Michael Rainwater fuses centuries-old classical elegance with a bold, pop-driven edge. He has enthralled audiences at world-class venues like Carnegie Hall and Cobb Energy Centre, placing the piano at the heart of lush, immersive sonic landscapes that redefine familiar melodies.
Featured on countless television specials, concerts, and benefits as well as in top magazines and newspapers, Rainwater's artistry now commands global attention. As both an arranger and producer, he reshapes tradition for a new era, where timeless artistry meets limitless possibility. Michael is also the creator of Classical Not Classical, a rock-symphony project that rebuilds anthems with classical architecture.
“Music is enough for a whole lifetime, but a lifetime is not enough for music.”Sergei Rachmaninoff
Michael Rainwater was born in Atlanta and started piano at three. From three he studied with David Nash in Roswell, a teacher who let him put Bach lines over rock harmony and then held the results to a classical standard. The house ran on Elvis and Rachmaninoff. He competed in the National Federation of Music Clubs for seven years and took a Superior rating every year.
At twelve, playing the floor-model Steinway at Fry's Electronics one Christmas, he was heard by Rick Kanfer, who has managed him since. That led to Tower of Talent, the televised benefit for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta's music therapy program, where he was a featured soloist every year from 2016 to 2021, to much acclaim, and those concerts have helped raise more than $7 million for the hospital. Each year he brought his own arrangement: a medley of Anton Bilotti's The Firefly and The Impossible Dream at twelve; In the Mood in 2017, played like the forties and answered with a thirty-second standing ovation; a mashup built on Chopin's Waltz in D-flat major, Op. 64, No. 1, the "Minute Waltz", in 2018; and in 2019 a virtuoso setting of Queen that opened with We Are the Champions, ran through Bohemian Rhapsody, and used a few bars of Somebody to Love as the bridge back to the chorus. In December 2018 he played a benefit for DELVIS Sings for Autism Change.
He made solo debuts at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, the Ferst Center for the Arts, and the City Springs Performing Arts Center, and in January 2020, at sixteen, played Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall. He has appeared several times on NBC's Atlanta & Company, and in 2025 gave a TEDxUGA talk at the Morton Theatre. In 2018 he shared a benefit bill at Eddie Owen's Red Clay Music Foundry with Myrna Clayton, the U.S. State Department's "America's Songbird", at a concert Edgewater Records and producer Jimmy LeFavour put on for DELVIS Sings for Autism Change.
He has been arranging since he was eleven. Great Balls of Fire has been watched more than 124,000 times on YouTube, where his Official Artist Channel has passed 170,000 views, and the sheet music paid for his first studio. He has recorded Bon Jovi, Bill Haley, and Queen with his own orchestra, and played live on NBC's Thanksgiving-week specials in 2020 and 2021. Watching the first, Canon in D folded into Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul and Mary told the production that the playing had the touch of Horowitz. His debut album, This Is Piano, came out in October 2020, eight arrangements, on Apple Music and Spotify. In 2022 he produced Back To Black with an orchestra he put together himself.
Production is the other half of the work. He produces for vocalists and for demo sessions, from Atlanta to Los Angeles: arrangement, keys, orchestration, and the mix, from the first sketch to the master. Recent features include Addison Bendall on Back To Black, Britt Goodling on Sleigh Ride, and Parker Rose and Jackson Dunlap on Baby, It's Cold Outside. He arranges, records, produces, and publishes his own music the same way.
Classical Not Classical, his symphonic project, puts the piano where the singer would be and writes the orchestra around it. His rule for all of it: timeless over trend.

Classical Not Classical
A symphonic concert where the piano becomes the pop star. classicalnotclassical.com
The singer's part goes to the piano. The orchestra is written around it, from scratch, for every song.
The repertoire
Led Zeppelin, Queen, Elvis, Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, Guns N' Roses. Great Balls of Fire, Stairway to Heaven, Don't Stop Me Now.
The method
A hook is treated like a theme, a drum groove like an ostinato, overdrive like orchestral colour. Every arrangement is Michael's, written from the recording up.
The solo versions are published as The Editions.
The songs they already know. Played live, just for them.
There is a difference between background music and a moment that brings a room to life. Michael performs live solo piano for assisted living communities, memory care residences, and senior living facilities: the standards, the show tunes, the rock and roll, and the hymns their residents grew up with.
The result is not a concert. It is a room full of people singing along, tapping their feet, calling out requests, and reconnecting with music that has been part of their lives for decades.
Michael Rainwater is a Carnegie Hall performer and First Prize winner at the Crescendo International Piano Competition, with two decades at the piano. He has performed at world-class venues, raised more than $7 million for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta through Tower of Talent, and appeared on NBC's Thanksgiving specials. For senior communities he brings that concert-level musicianship to an intimate, personal setting: every performance is built around the music your residents already know and love, played live, with warmth.
Or write here and choose Senior community.

Why live piano changes the room
They already know every word.
This is not new music. It is their music: songs from the 1940s through the 1980s that are woven into the fabric of your residents' lives. Recognition is what drives engagement, and engagement is what makes a program worth booking.
It is interactive, not passive.
Residents sing along. They hum. They tap the table. They request songs. Live music in a common area creates a fundamentally different energy than a playlist or a television. It invites participation.
Every visit feels different.
With fourteen distinct programs and a deep catalog of songs in rotation, you can book multiple performances across the year without repeating a show. Seasonal programs give you a ready-made calendar of events.
How it works
Flexible setup for your space.
Whether your community has a piano on site or needs an instrument provided, Michael arrives with everything required to perform in your common area, chapel, dining room, or activity space. Just tell us about the room.
Professional and self-contained.
Michael arrives early, sets up independently, communicates directly with your activities team, and keeps the program running on time. No sound system required. One pianist, one piano, one hour of music.
Booking is simple.
Choose a program from the list, or describe what you are looking for and we will recommend the right fit. We handle scheduling, confirmations, and follow-up so your team can focus on your residents.

Privacy
What this site collects, why, who handles it, and how to ask for a copy or deletion.
Last updated 10 September 2026.
michaelrainwatermusic.com is run by Michael Rainwater Music in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. We are the business responsible for the information described here. We collect only what the site needs to work, we do not sell it, and we do not track you around the internet.
What we collect
- When you buy sheet music: your name and email address, what you bought and what you paid, the payment processor's transaction reference and its record of the transaction, and the IP address, browser identifier, and referring page of the device that placed the order. Your card number, expiry, security code, and billing address go directly to our payment processor, Helcim, over an encrypted connection. They never reach our servers and we never store them.
- When you open a download link: the time, the file, and the IP address and browser identifier, so we can tell that your music reached you and can send a replacement if it did not. Each score is also stamped with the purchaser's name in the margin.
- When you open your library page: the link identifies the order it was sent with, and the page reads back the list of what that address has bought. Nothing new is recorded and the address is shown back to you partly masked.
- When you write to us: your name, email address, the kind of enquiry, and your message through the contact form; or your name and email address when you ask to be told that a recording is available again.
- When you write a review: the rating, the text, and the name you choose to sign it with. If you came from the letter we send after a purchase, the link identifies which order it was, so we can mark the review as coming from someone who actually bought the music.
- When you ask for a lost download link: the email address you enter, the IP address of the request, and whether it matched an order.
- Server logs: like every website, our host records requests (the address requested, the time, the IP address, the browser) for a short period to keep the site secure and working.
We do not ask for and do not knowingly hold anything that the law treats as sensitive: no government identifiers, no financial account numbers, no health, biometric, precise location, racial, religious, or sexual orientation data. We do not build profiles and nothing on this site makes an automated decision about you.
The same list, by category
Several state privacy laws ask for this in their own vocabulary. Over the past twelve months we have collected the following categories, from you directly and from our payment processor's response to your order. We have not sold or shared any of them, and we have not disclosed any of them for a business purpose beyond the processors named below.
- Identifiers
- Name, email address, IP address, browser identifier. Kept for as long as the record it belongs to.
- Customer records
- Name and email held against an order. Seven years.
- Commercial information
- What you bought, what you paid, and the transaction reference. Seven years.
- Internet activity
- Which download links were opened and when, the referring page of an order, and short-lived server logs. Two years for download activity, about thirty days for logs.
- Inferences
- None. We do not draw any.
- Sensitive information
- None collected.
Why we use it
- To deliver what you bought and email you the download links, and to send a fresh link when you ask for one. This is necessary to perform our contract with you.
- To confirm a payment with the processor before we release a file, and to spot forged or repeated requests. This is our legitimate interest in running the store safely.
- To reply to your enquiry, and to ask once, a week after a purchase, how the music went.
- To keep the records of sales that tax and business law require us to keep.
We do not sell personal information and we have not sold or shared any in the preceding twelve months. We do not share it for advertising, we do not use it to build profiles, and we do not disclose it to anyone beyond the processors named below except where the law requires it.
Who handles it
A few companies process data on our behalf, each only for the purpose named, and none of them may use it for their own purposes:
- Helcim
- Card payments. Helcim sees your card and billing details; we see a transaction reference, the amount, and the status.
- Vercel
- Hosting for the site and its server functions, including short-lived request logs.
- Neon
- The database where orders, download activity, and lost-link requests are recorded.
- Resend
- Sends our email: receipts, download links, replacements, and replies.
All of them store data in the United States. If you are outside the United States, your data is transferred here to fulfil your order and to answer you. Links to YouTube, Apple Music, Spotify, and other sites lead to services with their own privacy policies; nothing about you is sent to them until you follow a link.
Cookies and tracking
This site sets no cookies at all. It uses no analytics, no advertising pixels, no session recording, no chat widget, and no tracking of any kind, and it loads no fonts, scripts, or images from advertising networks or content delivery networks. The only third-party code anywhere on the site is the payment form on the checkout page, which loads Helcim's script because that is what takes your card securely.
Because we do not track visitors, there is nothing for a browser signal to switch off. We honour the Global Privacy Control and any similar universal opt-out signal, and we honour Do Not Track, but in each case the answer is the same: there was nothing being sold, shared, or tracked to begin with.
Two things are kept in your own browser, not on our servers, and they never leave your device until you check out. Your shopping bag is held in local storage so it is still there when you come back. During a visit to the checkout, your cart, the quoted amount, and the details you have typed into the form are held in session storage so that a refresh or a return from the payment step does not lose them; all of that is cleared as soon as the order goes through. A review you have just written is also held in session storage so that it stays on screen for the rest of your visit.
Email we send
We do not send newsletters, promotions, or marketing email, and we never add you to a list. Four of the letters we send are ones you asked for: the receipt for an order, the letter carrying your download links, a replacement link when you ask for one, and a reply to something you wrote to us.
There is one you did not ask for, and we would rather name it than let you discover it. About a week after a purchase we send a single letter asking how the arrangement went and offering a link to review it. It goes once per order, never for an order older than three weeks, and every one carries a line telling you how to stop them. Say the word and you will not get another.
How long we keep it
- Order records, including the processor's record of the transaction: seven years, because tax and accounting rules require it.
- Download activity and lost-link requests: two years, so we can help with a lost purchase.
- Contact messages, notify-me requests, and reviews: until we have replied and for up to two years afterwards.
- Server logs: about thirty days.
A download link, and the link to your library page, each carry a signed copy of the email address the order was placed with, so that the link can prove which order it belongs to without our storing anything extra. They are signed rather than secret: anyone you forward one to could read the address from it, and could download the files or see the list of what you have bought until the link expires after thirty days. Treat these links the way you would treat a receipt.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask for a copy of it in a portable form, ask us to correct it, and ask us to delete it. If you ask us to delete, we will keep only what the law requires us to keep, such as the record of a sale. You can also object to or restrict the handling we do on the basis of our legitimate interests, and you can withdraw a consent you have given at any time without that affecting what came before. We will never treat you differently, charge you a different price, or give you a lesser service for exercising any of this.
To make a request, use the contact page and say what you would like, or write to Rick Kanfer at rickkanfer@me.com. We answer within forty-five days. If a request is complicated we may take up to another forty-five, and we will tell you before we do. We may ask you to confirm the email address the order or message came from before we act, because that is usually the only way we can tell it is you.
Someone may make a request for you. If you use an authorised agent, we will ask for written permission signed by you, and we may still ask you to confirm directly that you asked for it.
If we say no. If we refuse a request, we will tell you why in writing and tell you how to appeal. To appeal, reply to that answer or write to the same address with the word "appeal" in it. We will look at it again and give you a written decision within sixty days. If we turn the appeal down too, we will give you a link for complaining to your state attorney general, and, if you are in Europe or the United Kingdom, to your data protection authority.
California
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act gives you the rights to know, to delete, to correct, to a portable copy, to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, and to limit the use of sensitive personal information. We do not sell or share personal information, we have not done so in the preceding twelve months, and we do not collect sensitive personal information, so those last two rights have nothing to bite on and there is no "Do Not Sell or Share" link to click. Everything else in the section above applies to you, by the same route. California's Shine the Light law is likewise moot here: we disclose nothing to third parties for their own direct marketing.
Europe and the UK
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, Michael Rainwater Music is the controller of the information described here. Our lawful bases are the ones named under "Why we use it": performance of a contract for delivering what you bought, legitimate interests for keeping the store safe and for the single letter after a purchase, and legal obligation for the records we must keep. Transfers to the United States happen because they are necessary to perform the contract you asked us to perform, and because our processors are bound by contractual safeguards. Beyond the rights above, you may complain to your supervisory authority. We sell into Europe only occasionally and hold nothing sensitive, so we have not appointed a representative in the Union.
Children
The site is not directed at children under thirteen and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
The site is served only over HTTPS. Download links are signed so they cannot be guessed, and they expire after thirty days. Card details are handled by Helcim, a PCI DSS compliant processor, and never touch our servers. Access to the database and the mailbox is limited to Michael and his management. No system is perfect; if we ever discover a breach affecting your information, we will tell you and the relevant authorities as quickly as the law requires.

Terms
How this site may be used, and how The Editions are sold: the licence, delivery, prices, and refunds.
Last updated 10 September 2026.
These terms cover two things: using michaelrainwatermusic.com, and buying from The Editions. The site is run by Michael Rainwater Music, Atlanta, Georgia, United States. By using the site you accept the first half; by placing an order you accept both. They are written to be read, not skimmed; if anything is unclear, ask before you buy.
Whose work this is
The arrangements, the recordings, the photography, the writing, and the design of this site are Michael Rainwater's work, or are used here with permission, and they are protected by copyright. The arrangements are of songs whose copyright belongs to their original writers and publishers, and they are sold under licence from those publishers. Nothing you buy or read here transfers any of that copyright to you. "Michael Rainwater Music", "The Editions", and "Classical Not Classical" are our marks.
Using the site
You are welcome to read, watch, listen, link to any page, and quote a sentence or two with credit. Please do not:
- copy, republish, or mirror substantial parts of the site;
- scrape it, crawl it beyond ordinary search indexing, or collect from it by automated means;
- use any of it to train, fine-tune, or ground a machine learning or generative model. We expressly reserve the rights reserved by Article 4(3) of Directive (EU) 2019/790, and this reservation is stated in machine-readable form in our robots.txt;
- interfere with the site, probe it for weaknesses, or try to reach parts of it that are not public;
- use it for anything unlawful, or to impersonate anyone.
If you think you have found a security problem, please tell us rather than demonstrate it. We will not come after anyone who reports one in good faith and gives us a reasonable chance to fix it.
Reviews
When you send a review you are giving us permission to publish it, in whole or in part, on the product page and in ordinary promotion of that arrangement, with the name you signed it with. You keep whatever rights you have in what you wrote. You are not paid for it and we do not offer anything in exchange for one.
Reviews are read by a person before they appear, so yours will not be visible the moment you send it. We publish them whether they are kind or not. You do not have to have bought it here; reviews are welcome from anyone who has played the arrangement, wherever they got it. We will decline one only if it is abusive, if it is not about the music, or if it looks fabricated. We do not decline a review for being critical, and we do not delete one because we dislike it. Where a page shows a count of five-star reviews, that is what the number counts, and where those reviews came from a shop other than this one the page says so.
Copyright complaints
If you own the copyright in a work and believe something on this site infringes it, write to Rick Kanfer at rickkanfer@me.com with the word "copyright" in the subject. Tell us what work you mean, where on the site it appears, how to reach you, and confirm that you are the owner or are authorised to act for them and that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorised. We take these seriously and will respond promptly.
The site itself
We keep the site accurate and available as best we can, but we do not promise it will be free of errors or never go down, and we may change or withdraw any part of it. Links to YouTube, Apple Music, Spotify, and elsewhere lead to services we do not run and are not responsible for. Except for what we owe you on an order you have placed, the site is provided as it is, without warranties, so far as the law allows.
The licence you buy
What you buy is a licence to use a digital file, not the copyright in the music or the arrangement. The licence lets you:
- download the file, keep it, print it, and load it on your devices for your own use;
- learn, practise, teach from, and perform the arrangement, including in public performance and in recordings you make of your own playing;
- for an ensemble arrangement priced per part, print and use one copy for each part you paid for. The file always contains the full score and every part; the number of parts you buy is the number of players it covers.
The licence does not let you sell, give away, post, share, or otherwise distribute the file or copies of it, in whole or in part, or claim the arrangement as your own. Copies sold or shared beyond the licence are an infringement of copyright and the licence ends. The licence is personal to you and cannot be transferred.
Placing an order
You need to be eighteen to buy, or to have a parent or guardian's permission and their card. Placing an order is an offer to buy; the contract is made when we send the letter with your download links.
Because everything here is delivered by email, you agree to receive your receipt, your licence, your download links, and any notice about your order electronically, at the address you gave us. Keep it current, and check a spam or promotions folder before you conclude that something did not arrive. If you would rather have a paper copy of anything, ask and we will send one.
If a price is displayed in error and is obviously wrong, we may cancel the order and refund it in full rather than hold you to it or hold ourselves to it.
Delivery
Once the payment is confirmed, a download link for each item is emailed to the address you gave, normally within a minute, and the links are also shown on the confirmation page. Each link works for thirty days and can be used more than once in that time. If you lose it, the lost link page will send a fresh one to the email address the order was placed with. If the email is not there, contact us and we will send the file another way. Nothing is posted; there is no shipping and no shipping charge.
Prices and payment
All prices are in United States dollars. A price shown with a struck-through figure is a sale price; the struck-through figure is the previous price. Ensemble arrangements are priced per part with a stated minimum number of parts. A 10% discount applies when two or more different arrangements are in the same order. The price shown is the whole price: no fees or taxes are added at checkout. Payment is by card through Helcim; card details go directly to Helcim and are never stored by us.
Refunds
All sales are final once the file has been delivered. A digital file cannot be returned, so we do not refund a purchase because you changed your mind, bought the wrong arrangement, or found the music harder than expected. The free two-page preview and the fold-out preview on every product page are there so you can check before buying, and most of the piano solos have a performance on YouTube.
That is about changing your mind, not about us getting it wrong. If the file does not arrive, will not open, or is not the arrangement you ordered, tell us within thirty days and we will replace it or refund it in full. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under the consumer law of the place you live.
Europe and the UK
Consumers in the European Union and the United Kingdom normally have fourteen days to change their mind about something bought online. That right does not survive the delivery of digital content that you asked to have straight away. When you tick the box at checkout you are asking us to deliver the file immediately and acknowledging that once we have, the fourteen-day right to cancel is gone. Everything in the paragraph above about a file that does not arrive or is not what you ordered still applies, as does the rest of your consumer law.
If we disagree
Write to us first. Almost everything is settled in one email, and we would rather fix a problem than argue about one.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, United States, and any dispute will be dealt with by the state or federal courts of Georgia, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim at home. Either of us may take a qualifying claim to small claims court instead. Any claim about an order must be brought within one year of the order, unless the law where you live gives you longer.
General
Items may be withdrawn from sale at any time; a purchase made before an item is withdrawn keeps its licence. We are not responsible for losses that we could not reasonably have foreseen when you bought, and our total responsibility for any order is limited to the amount you paid for it, except where the law does not allow that limit. Neither of us is responsible for a delay caused by something genuinely outside our control. If a court finds one of these terms unenforceable, the rest still stand.
We may change these terms, and the version in force is the one published when you place your order, which is the version we will hold ourselves to. Questions go through the contact page or to Rick Kanfer at rickkanfer@me.com. Our privacy policy explains what we do with the information an order gives us.
